About Church of Sts. Cyril and Methodius in Bílovice nad Svitavou

The church in Bílovice nad Svitavou was built in 1908-1913 by the architect Antonín Blažek in the late Historism style with Neo-Gothic, Art Noveau and Modernism signs. The church was damaged during WWII – in 1945, Russian soldiers damaged both the exteriors and interiors during liberation of Czechoslovakia. The damaged parts had to be replaced. In 2005, some re-constructions work was done, including installing a new altar. Recently, there are masses in the church performed almost every day, and various activities for both adults and children take place, too.

The church has one nave built in North-South direction. The nave has a rectangle shape. There is a pentagonal-shaped presbytery with a rectangular sacristy attached. There is a side chapel on the western side of the church and a 34 meters high tower on the Southern side.

There is a painting above the entrance door. Originally, the painting showed The Holy Trinity. However, it was destroyed during WWII. Now, the painting shows St Cyril and Methodius and the original pattern was painted by Jano Köhler in 1912.

There are three arch windows on the belfry floor. There are three bells named St. Cyrill and Methodius, St Anna, and St. Joseph. These bells were made by R. Manoušek in 1947. In the highest part of the tower, there are four clocks. The tower has a pyramid shape and has a cross on top.

The facade is unique for its double-structure both in colors and materials. There are lines of red bricks combined with grey stone. Another decorative part is the roof, where colorful ceramic tiles were used.

The church is a Czech Republic´s National Cultural Landmark.
